If you haven't seen the Mexican Freetail Bats fly from underneath
the Congress Street Bridge, now is the time. After giving birth
to pups in June or July, the colonys number swells to 1.5 million
bats. Most nights at sunset, streams of bats appear like floating
black ribbons against on the horizon for feeding on mosquitoes
and insects. While struggling to renew their reputation against
myths and legends surrounding bats, the bats under the bridge
serve to improve our environment while ridding us of bothersome
bugs. Bat Conservation International maintains an informational
kiosk on the shores of Town Lake just down the steps from Shoreline
Grill. While patio bat-viewing is popular, we also recommend that
guests take advantage of their proximity to the kiosk and hike
and bike trail for a different look.

Davis Gallery Showcase
Shoreline Grill is proud to host the opening of a thoughtful new
exhibition curated by Davis Gallery, featuring artists Joseph
Hammer, Randall Reid, and George McFarland, on display Monday,
September 17th through Sunday, January 5th.
Looking Back, Looking Forward explores the passage
of time through natural and found materials. Joseph Hammer's mixed
media constructions suggest a look back to the old bookbinder's
craft, while Randall Reid's layered, tightly designed compositions
evoke a sense of nostalgia with the use of weathered surfaces,
old tools and a richly earth-worn color palette. The modern mahogany
sculptures of George McFarland pushes the view of nature past
three dimensions with multiple planes and curves.
